Building Emotional Intelligence

…gaining emotional traction through workspace design

Emotion in the workspace

Over the next 3 to 5 years, there will be a predicted sixfold increase in the demand for emotional intelligence brought about by the introduction of artificial intelligence and automation in the workplace.

Yet, at the same time we continue to design offices that are benumbing: that strip out emotional context in favour of utility and technology.

BuildingEI.com is an ongoing research initiative seeking to redress this imbalance. Using abundant research evidence, it explores how designers and facilities managers can make a difference. It highlights how emotion can be embedded in the workplace, enabling occupants to become more emotionally intelligent. Through symbology and aesthetics it assesses how the ‘soul’ of the workplace has become more important than ever.
